The Rocky River Assistance Program (RRAP) — initiated in 1984 by the Rocky River Junior Women’s Club — is an established community resource for residents in need of food and clothing. Rocky River Assistance Program’s goal is to provide participants with food and household products for seven days each month. In addition, children on the program receive new seasonal clothes and items from their holiday wish list.
Eligibility
Clients must be a resident of Rocky River for six months and meet income requirements. The Rocky River Assistance Program income requirements parallel those of the Ohio Department of Human Services based
on the TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) household eligibility guidelines. To establish proof of residency and financial need, applicants will be asked to present a copy of some of the following documents at registration.
These are 8 of the most typical types of documents required.
• Utility bill for past three months
• Lease agreement
• Recent W-2 form or paycheck stub
• Social Security Award Letter
• Current Unemployment book
• Child Support Statement
• Photo Identification
• Children’s birth certificates
Confidentiality
Full confidentiality is a vital part of RRAP. However, there are some women managing the program who have monthly contact with the participants. Access to client’s names is restricted to a few selected RRAP committee members. The information is treated with the utmost respect.
Special Requests
When a special request for items such as home furnishings or baby-care supplies arises, RRAP turns to the community to fulfill the need. Conversely, when RRAP becomes aware of a potential donation from the community of an appliance or furniture, a notice is posted at the food distribution center at the Beach Education Center.
Distribution
Food is distributed on the third Wednesday of each month. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off at the Beach Education Center between the hours of 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday preceding the third Wednesday of each month or by contacting the Rocky River Assistance Program. Transportation to retrieve items is the responsibility of the recipient.
Volunteers
Volunteers are needed each month to help sort and pack food for the RRAP families. Please join us at Beach Education Center on the Tuesday preceding the third Wednesday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. One does not need to be a RRJWC member to volunteer and help sort and pack food for the RRAP. Families are welcome! Children enjoy playing in the gym while we sort and pack food.
Food Pantry Location
Beach Education Center is located at 1101 Morewood Pkwy (and Detroit Rd) in Rocky River.
